Facial Fat Injection
Injection of fat into the face is generally used to correct contour deformities and to plump up and restore volume to aging faces. It can be helpful in treating facial lines and wrinkles. Fat can be injected into virtually any area of the face, as well as in other areas of the body such as the buttocks or hands.
Procedure
This surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia. All surgery is done at Dr. Payne’s MediCare and California State Certified Pueblo Nuevo Surgery Center located within his office.
Fat is harvested for injection from wherever the client has some excess. Common donor sites are the stomach area and thighs. The fat is gently collected and then processed prior to being injected into the treatment zone. The donor site not only provides the fat for the procedure but also benefits by having improved appearance and contours afterwards.
Tiny hidden incisions are used on the face to facilitate access for injection. Special instruments are used to carefully fill the contour abnormalities, lines and wrinkles. The fat may be placed from just under the skin all the way down to the underlying bone. Some over-correction is usually necessary as not all of the fat will survive after it has been placed in its new location.
Facial zones that may be filled with fat include the forehead, brow, orbits, hollows beneath the eye, cheeks, lips, and areas along the jaw line and in the neck.
Fat may also be injected in other areas of the body, including the buttocks. It can be used to fill any flat or indented zone. For example, as women age their hands become more skeletonized in appearance. Fat injected into dorsum of such hands results in a more youthful and supple appearance.
Results
There is no question that a fresh, youthful pair of lips is a beautiful sight to behold. Lip augmentation is very popular and for good reason. Fuller lips project an aura of sexiness and energy. Lipstick and gloss simply look better after lips are enhanced.
The longevity of lip augmentation varies according to the individual and the method used. Most safe and reliable lip augmentation being done today is temporary and will last up to one year. Repeat injections can offer longer-lasting results. Although there are long-term lip filling agents and materials available, they have certain drawbacks and risks associated with them. At the current time, Dr. Payne feels the temporary agents are the best option for most clients.
After the Surgery
Most people lose fat volume in their face as they age. This impacts women more than men. As people age and lose facial fat, their skin also tends to lose some of its elastic properties and becomes looser and more prone to wrinkling and drooping. Sun damage causes skin to wrinkle and look splotchy and rough. Muscles can shrink or sag. Even facial bones can atrophy and recede.
This minimally invasive surgery is easy to perform using micro-injection techniques, and the results can be stunning. By restoring proper volume to the face and other body areas, the look of youth can be restored. Facial skin and soft tissue looks lifted as it is filled. The results are long-lasting and client satisfaction is high. If a client is not read for more invasive surgery such as a facelift or other facial surgery, this option makes perfect sense. If a client has had good experiences with soft tissue fillers such as restylane, juvederm, perlane, radiesse, collagen, and other agents and wants something more permanent, then fat injection is that natural choice.
